Music Class - 9/1/2021
This year we will be able to sing in music class - yeah!!! In grades K-4 we will be working in 4 specific areas
1. .AURAL - (call and response / echoing) - this is to develop the students listening skills. It gives instant feedback on comprehension of high/low, fast/slow, rhythm repetition and more.
2. SING & PLAY - the students will learn a new song and build on it with melodic and rhythmic instruments. This teaches vocalization, playing rhythms and beats, and playing melodic accompaniments.
3. COMPOSITION - the composition component ranges from creating sound/no sound, songs with animal sounds, melodic writing and more.
4.CONNECT - each lesson has a video of different styles of music. This is to teach the students about music from all over the world and about the instruments used in the genre being performed.
Students in grades K-4 will also work on songs for two concerts: one in December and one in May/June.
Family Medical Leave
Dear Parents and Students;
I am writing to let you know that I will be absent for several weeks after February vacation. I will be having back surgery that will keep me out of school for about six weeks. I have all of my K-8 music class assignments scheduled to post each week as they normally would. I will, however, be a little behind on assessing these assignments. I will do my best to get them assessed as quickly as possible. It is my goal to have all of the work assessed prior to the end of Term Two. If I am unable to do that, the school will notify you that music grades will be delayed.
You may certainly email me if you have a question or concern and I will get back to you as soon as I am physically able to.
Thank you for your understanding,
Pauline Miller

MUSIC ASSIGNMENTS
Hello everyone. We are already halfway through Term Two. I wanted to remind you all that Music Class assignments are posted on Wednesday morning each week. Some of you are doing a GREAT job at completing these assignments. If you check your grades in Google Classroom, you will be able to see if you are missing anything. I will always accept your work. I do not take off points for late assignments but they must be done before the end of the term.
NOTE on VIDEO UPLOADS: If you or your parents find it difficult to upload a video of you performing an activity, then you just need to make a comment to that effect so that I know.
NOTE on WORKSHEETS: Older students.... I DO ASSESS everything that you turn in. Some of you are still just hitting the "Turn In" button without doing any of the work. I will see that and I will give you a zero. Please complete the worksheet before turning in your assignment.

BINGO
Dear Grade One students and parents,
Today we will sing and play a song called “BINGO” and you need to learn some specific clapping patterns to go with it.

Dear Grade One students and parents,
Today we will sing and play a song called “BINGO” and you need to learn some specific clapping patterns to go with it and then play some instruments.
You will need to find or make some simple instruments: something to use as a drum and something to use as a shaker.
Step 1: Watch the video and learn the clapping pattern.
https://funmusicmembers.com/at-home/1l1-1/
Watch the video, and make sure you can play the clapping pattern properly in the B-I-N-G-O section. Sing along with the video!
Step 2: Make two instruments.
You will need to find or make:
You basically need to make an instrument that can be any type of drum. This is as simple as finding a plastic food container or a bowl that you can hit with your hand. If you want to go further with it you can look up on the internet how to make a drum and create it.
Step 3: Watch the video to learn to play your instruments.
Watch the following video:
https://funmusicmembers.com/at-home/1l1-2/
Then learn to play each part. First, play the tambourine part with your home-made drum, and then play the shaker part with your home-made shaker. Make sure you are only playing at the appropriate time - and sing along for the rest of the song!
When it gets to the part where it says to split into two groups in your class, just choose one of the two parts to play. If you have a sibling or a parent to play with, you can each do one part. Grade One students and parents,

Music Classes during COVID
Due to the COVID Pandemic, students at CDS will not be having regular music classes, but we will be working on some of the same materials that we would if we were actually in my classroom.
Students will be asked to log into the Google Classroom that I have set up for their class. Each week there will be anew assignment/activity for the students to explore.
I hope that the students and the parents will enjoy these activities.
Your child may also sing along with any of the songs below. I will be adding more over the next couple of weeks.

FOLK SONGS
I have uploaded some of the K-4 Students favorite songs along so that if they have the urge to sing, these familiar tunes and videos will be available for them. We all hope to be back at school soon.

Grades K-4Once we get back into my classroom, all students in Grades K-4 will learn to play classroom instruments. They will start in Kindergarten on non-pitched percussion (ie: triangle, drum, tambourine, maracas, etc.) and work their way up to pitched instruments like xylophones and glockenspiels.
|
Grade 3Once we get back into the classroom, students in Grade 3 will be learning the recorder this year. It is a pre-band instrument to prepare them for 4th grade and possibly joining band.
