All students that attend Center Drive School attend a general music class once a week. They study rhythm, harmony, melody, timbre, history, styles, listening and more. The students in grades K-4 also perform in 2 concerts a year.
Center Drive School offers a multitude of music options for students in grades 4-8.
-Any student in those grades may join Beginner Band at any time. Beginner Band students get to select a band instrument and then learn all of the skills to become a successful performer on that instrument.
- Any student that already plays an instrument may join Concert Band. The students in concert band continue to develop their musical skills through rehearsals and sectionals.
- Jazz Band is a performing group for students that want a bigger challenge than Concert Band and enjoy that style of jazz. Students must be invited into the Jazz Band and they also must be a member of Concert Band. The Jazz Band competes against area schools and then at the state level.
- Musical Theater (Drama) is open to all students in grades 5-8. It is scheduled between the Winter and Spring sports seasons to enable as many students as possible to participate. Students involved in Musical Theater may audition for acting/singing roles, stage crew, lighting crew, sound crew, props crew, wardrobe crew, audience services and student leadership roles.
This will be my 29th year teaching at Center Drive School. Prior to that I taught 2 years in Winter Harbor and Sullivan. Many of you will remember me as Pauline Dickey but I got married in July of 2016 so the face is the same, just a different name.
